Fremantle (Walyallup) is a quaint and character rich port city located near Perth, Western Australia where the swan river meets with the Indian Ocean. Fremantle was first inhabited by the Whadjuk people (part of the Noongar language group) that are indigenous to the region. It was colonised in 1829 by British immigrants. Fast forward to modern day and it is a city of 27,000 people with it’s own AFL team (The Fremantle Dockers) It is a very popular tourist destination and was recently named as the 7th top city to visit in the world by lonely planet (it is a beautiful place but personally I think that’s going a bit far ;).
I work and live on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people and I wish to acknowledge them as Traditional Owners of the land and pay my respects to them.
